The Penn MAG2 series has been designed with a specific focus on distance fishing and is suitable for salt water fishing at shores both in the UK and in Europe. There are three reels within the series, each with a different particular application in mind. Penn has been in the fishing tackle business for more than 75 years now so you can be confident each reel in the MAG2 series is of excellent quality with an outstanding performance.

With a lightweight graphite frame, the weight of each reel is suitable enough to transport and carry easily. For the 515 it is 403g, for the 425 is it 409g and 435 MAG2 GS series it is 510g. This means you will able to carry your rod and luggage too without any unnecessary hassle or strain. The reels also have aluminium sideplates making the reel resistant to corrosion from water and therefore long lasting. Aluminium is strong so any damage by force is unlikely. These materials make the MAG2 series durable and sturdy whilst remaining at a low weight to ensure ease of use and efficiency for anglers like yourself.

The Penn MAG2 series has a live spindle with a free floating spool on each of the reels; the spool is made of forged and machined aluminium along with having a knurled strip in the centre to give the knot a better grip which prevents the line slipping under pressure and gives an overall better performance. It includes an instant anti-reverse bearing as well which prevents the spool from turning backwards, making the experience of using any of these reels much more pleasurable.

The main gear of these reels is made of high strength marine grade bronze which provides the reel with a powerful 6:1 ratio. This bronze is made specifically to resist erosion from sea water, fatigue and general wear; elongating the life of your reel and ensuring you, the angler, receive the best value when you’re out sea fishing.

With stainless steel pinion gear and 6 stainless steel shielded ball bearings, driven by the marine grade bronze main gear, the reel has high corrosion resistance so it is suitable for any weather conditions an angler could come across and has incredible strength and durability. The shield on the ball bearings provides better protection from contamination and lubrication migration as it does not contact the inner race but instead has a small gap which allows the inner race to turn without friction and reduces the chances of dirt entering the bearing. This will reduce the amount of maintenance time to minimum, so you can be doing what you want to instead; fishing.

All of the Penn MAG2 series have the patented versa-drag system with HT-100 washers that allows you to pre-determine a targeted drag range by rearranging the sequence of keyed metal washers and tabbed friction washers with the star drag operation. This provides an exceedingly large drag range regardless of which line-class and drag settings you choose and provides you with an excellent performance due to the easy set-up and smoothness of the cast and drag, even under a heavy load. It can even reduce the chances of getting an overrun.

A major feature of these reels is the brand new patented adjustable magnetic braking system. This new system moves a blanking plate over a static magnet to create the perfect amount of braking. It will give you a precise setting which allows for tremendous control whether you prefer zero or maximum braking. This increases the smoothness and the length of your cast, making the most of your angling skills.
