Korda Sub Braid
If you’re a fan of slack line fishing in snaggy swims then you cannot go wrong with the Korda Sub Braid. This is a sinking braided mainline to best all others and since its release it has set the standard for other brands to beat. Offering an unbeatable combination of sinkability, sensitivity, and flexibility, you really will struggle to find a better mainline for all your carp fishing. Korda’s own Elliott Gray has been angling with it religiously since the early days of product development and the only time he’s ever used anything different is when he’s been on a venue that bans the use of braided lines. It really is the ultimate carp fishing mainline.
The Korda Sub Braid is a classic single braided mainline. This means that it is able to offer unparalleled flexibility and it is considerably suppler than a traditional fluorocarbon mainline. This is a mainline that is perfect for use when you’re slack line fishing as it will hug all the curves of the lake bed. Your target fish won’t have a clue that this line is running along the bottom of their watery home and it is the ultimate tool for a stealthy approach with nervous carp. It comes in an impressive dark green colour – so dark that it is almost black. You might be surprised to find out that this colour wasn’t Korda’s original choice and the brand initially designed the Sub Braid with a muddy brown colour. However, after extensive product testing, the Korda team discovered that this black-green colour was a much more versatile camouflage that suited the vast majority of their venues.
The suppleness of the Korda Sub Braid isn’t its only asset over fluorocarbon when snag fishing; this mainline choice is also a significantly faster sinker. This means that not only does it hug the lake bed better but it gets down their faster – significantly reducing the time that the line is suspended in the water column and thus at risk from being noticed by a fish. With the Korda Sub Braid the fish have no idea that you’re even in the swim.
One of the biggest assets of the Korda Sub Braid is its complete lack of stretch. This can take some getting used to, particularly if you tend to fish with a monofilament or fluorocarbon for the majority of your angling, but the benefits of it are almost endless. If you do still find your self hankering after a little more give then you can always use a fluorocarbon shock leader, which will give you the cushion you’re after – especially if you’re an aggressive angler and you are worried about hook pulls. Korda’s Elliott Gray also tends to use his Korda Sub Braid in combination with a softer rod, too.
The lack of stretch on the line means that you don’t even have to get out your marker rods. You’ll be able to cast with incredible accuracy, inching as close as you like to the trees without worrying that your line stretch is going to cause you to loose your terminal tackle in the trees on the far side of your swim. You can also fish snaggy waters with confidence with the Korda Sub Braid, as the lack of stretch on the line means that if your fish starts to kite towards a snag it doesn’t have an inch of extra distance. The Korda Sub Braid can also provide great indication. You can feel the lead down with this rod to perfectly feature find, whilst also being able to register the smallest of bites should you be an angler who likes to hover over your bite alarm and indicators to get a picture of what is going on under the water.
As a final top tip, Elliott Gray recommends wetting your reel before use, as dry Korda Sub Braid can result in nasty wind knots.
