When you think of UK carp fishing one of the first names you think of is Drennan. This Front Drag 3000 Float has been designed, as the name suggests, with float fishing in mind and it forms an excellent addition to any carp angler’s arsenal. Not only this, but this reel can be used for coarse and match fishing too and it lends itself to a variety of float fishing scenarios across the disciplines.

The Drennan FD 3000 Float is supplied with no less than three alloy spools, all of which are designed to take between 90 and 100 meters of standard float monofilament line – ideally with 3lb to 6lb breaking strains, or diameters between 0.14mm and 0.22mm. These spools have been designed to be ultra-shallow in order to provide the perfect line lay with these line types without the need for backing line. Drennan has built the spool with a single deep grove at the back end and a depression opposite the line clip. This has been designed to perfectly accommodate the loop knot when you’re loading your reel, giving you a faultless line lay. Drennan recommend that a long tag from the knot should be left and trapped across the spool with your first few turns of line wound over the top by hand. This completely eliminates the risks of snagging or bumps in the line lay and ensures that you can cast perfectly each time. Using this technique you can cast further and the line peels from the spool in a smooth flow when trotting. These also feature interchangeable breaking strain buttons, for easy spool identification.
