For this latest episode we decided on something different, swapping our poles, seat boxes and maggots for sea fishing rods, tripods and lugworm, as we ventured down to Aldeburgh town beach in Suffolk with the hope of catching a Codling or two!
Why Aldeburgh? Well, Aldeburgh is and has been a fantastic Cod beach though the years, its steep shingle profile means you have some nice deep water close in, it’s also well known for generating a decent tide run. These two things combined are very important features when trying to choose a suitable venue to target Cod and Codling.
With a strong north westerly wind and a big building tide conditions looked good, the sea state didn’t necessarily scream ‘Cod’, but as they say ‘you’ve got to be in it, to win it’.
With high water around 8.00 o’clock in the evening, we arrived to a rather deserted beach around mid afternoon, meaning we’d have a couple of hours of light to get some filming done before dark.
We set up two beach casters armed with pulley pennel rigs, 3/0 hooks and 6oz impact leads. The bait was the good old common blow Lug, to which we had 100 of, we also had an additional 50 Ragworm.
