Young Angler Of The Year - Learn To Fish Carp Academy

So the day was upon us, the best of the best that had passed through the academy this summer were invited back for a celebration of the academy and some one -to- one tuition from our coaches to take their angling onto the next level.

When everyone arrived I could see our students were a little nervous they had been getting comfortable learning from me but coaches Nick Watkins and Tommy Flower soon had them chatting about their fishing and in no time at all they were relaxed and learning how to tie up some rigs.

Nick opted to tie up some simple bottom bait rigs and it wasn’t long before young Charlie had copied the Knotless knot and was ready to cast out and wait for the action to start.

Tommy opted for a solid bag approach and young John was helping him to fill the bags and get it tight ready for casting. The weight of the lead and the bag took some getting used to but eventually John was hitting the spot with a little correction from the coaches.

No sooner had we a settled down for the first brew of the day Charlie's left hand rod tore off with a pretty common gracing the net. Nick was just explaining a bit about the carp care needed for the fish on the matt when the other rod screamed off and a slightly bigger common was on the end.

With both fish on the bank we were grateful for the size and sides of the Advanta CX Lite Rehab cradles. The work I had done previously with the students meant I was confident they know how to handle and hold the fish correctly.

Well with a double take in the first half an hour of the 3 hour session we were expecting quite a day of it but it wasn't to happen as the lake went very very quiet and no more fish were landed despite John and Tommy trying every trick in the book.

Chris Cox from Baitcraft kindly came down to hand out the trophies and some goodies from Baitcraft. Alan Blair had also kindly arranged for some Nash goodies to be given out as prizes meaning the students could continue to practise what they had learnt at home.

We are still running throughout the winter on most weekends so if your son or daughter, niece or nephew etc wants to learn why not check out our website.

This time of year also means less anglers on the bank so its a great time to improve your skills ready for the warmer weather. Our adult sessions are on offer now so once again take a look at the website for more details www.learntofish.co.uk
