The Week Ahead...

The Prospects…

Once again last week was very average, temperatures hovered around the 6-8 degree mark and the majority of the UK was covered in a blanket of cloud, with occasional sunny spells. I know some parts of the UK saw the first ‘white stuff’ of the year, but here in the East it remained relatively dry with only the odd rain shower.

I don’t want to dwell on the weather and prospects too much this week, as there really isn’t a lot to say, as this week promises more of the same, in fact the forecast almost looks like a carbon copy of the previous! Apparently the weather will remain relatively settled and will have a similar look for the next couple of weeks, as an area of high pressure sits out to the South West of the country, acting as a ‘blocker’ to all other fronts. I suppose even though a little ‘drab’ the weather we are experiencing at the moment isn’t too bad at all, it could certainly be a lot worse! Anyway, here’s this week’s forecast…

Weather

What does this mean for the fishing? Well I guess settled weather and temperatures a degree or two above average will help the fishing, fish don’t like extreme weather changes, so if it keeps consistent they should be willing to feed. I suppose the sea anglers, well definitely here on the East coast, would be hoping for some stronger winds to stir the bottom, but unfortunately this doesn’t look likely, for this week anyway.

According to our friendly fishing App, the best days this week to get out on the bank to target some fish will be today and tomorrow, as Tuesday has a rating of nearly 90% fishing efficiency. This tales off towards the middle part of the week, but gradually picks up as we head towards next weekend, with next Sunday and Monday looking very productive indeed!

Best-Day

If you do plan on having a session and do get out then good luck and of course don’t forget to let us know how you get on! Send any pictures and reports to: contact@anglingdirect.co.uk

My Fishing…

It was a rather fishless week and weekend for me as I didn’t manage to get out, with one thing and another I didn’t find the time. Me and Steve had a session pencilled in for Saturday but in the end we called it off, I had lots of editing to do at home and he had been summoned for a game of golf… I know…I don’t understand it either!!!!

I’m not too sure if I’ll get out this week either, reports from the beach don’t inspire me with confidence, it’s a bit of a Whiting fest at the moment, with the Codling very few and far between. I’m sure one day this weekend me and Steve will get out with the camera, perhaps Sunday, where or fishing for what I’m not sure, but whatever happens I’ll let you know!

As I mentioned I was busy editing this weekend and have a couple of new video’s live, which I will share in the coming weeks, but for now here’s an older episode, filmed this time last year…

The video, Fishing The Preston Banjo Feeder for Carp & F1’s and the in depth tackle list of all products used can be seen here:

In The Press…

In a rather quiet week of news here’s a couple of stories that caught our eye, with some news on the England feeder fishing team, a giant shore caught Cod and a rather unusual site on a Norfolk Beach.

England Take Bronze In South Africa

Preston Innovations England Feeder Team take World bronze.

Preston Innovations Team England have taken a team bronze medal in this years World Feeder Championship, held at Bloemhof Dam in South Africa. The team lost out on a silver medal on weight countback.

Our reporter on the bank told Match Fishing that Tommy Pickering had a good day in E section today, but the rest of the lads struggled, unfortunately, after lying in silver position going into today's match. A plan that saw the England team feed too heavily today was part of the reason higher section places weren't secured.

South Africa took team gold on their home water, while Hungary scooped silver. South Africa team member 'Jumbo' secured individual gold medal, too.

It's yet to be officially confirmed, but we understand that Tommy in England's best performer having secured individual sixth place.

Dungeness Monster

Something I noticed on the social sites last week was this cracking shore caught Cod! The fish was landed by sea angler Chris Radley and it weighed in at 18lb 8oz cod and fell to Whiting live bait, just before high tide. What an awesome fish, well done to Chris!

Whale Washes Up on Norfolk Beach

The 25ft (7.6m) Minke whale was found earlier on Cromer East beach. The Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme (CSIP), which investigates whale strandings, has advised the council to leave the carcass in the hope the high tide will wash it away.

A spokesman for North Norfolk District Council said: "We are not cordoning it off, but are asking people to keep their dogs away from the area."

Peter Battrick, from the council, said: "The CSIP has looked at photographs of the whale and said as it is decomposing, it must have died at sea, so they do not need to examine it. "Hopefully it will wash away at high tide, which is about 20:30 GMT."

He added: "If the whale is still on the beach in the morning, we will consider how best to remove it."

Angling Direct November Newsletter

Here in our Norwich store, we were graced with the presence of local legend, AD regular and Drennan Cup winner Gareth Goldson, Gareth was in store to receive the prestigious trophy from Drennan’s Julian Watson. Gareth who’s had a sensational string of specimen fish is definitely a well deserved winner of Angling’s most coveted prize and everyone at Angling Direct would like to say a massive well done!

Gareth GoldsonStaying with the Norwich store, shop manager Andy Flint recently enjoyed a few days Pike fishing with AD regular and good friend Colin Adams, the two of them fished the famous Chew Reservoir and didn’t come away empty handed. Even though conditions were far from ideal the Piking pirates managed to bank one nice fish, with a 26lb 4oz falling to Colin’s rods, this was a new PB for Colin making the trip extra special.

Colin’s fish is pictured below, but the full album can be seen on our Facebook page by clicking the link below…
