Wednesday Review... Wychwood Riot-S Black Big Pit

Reviewed by Advanced Carp Fishing Magazine… Advanced-Carp-Fishing-Logo

With medium big pits becoming ever-more popular due to their casting ability and more compact design, it was no hardship at all to test the new stealth offering from Wychwood. The Riot 65S is striking in appearance, finished in a matt black with a dark, wooden effect handle and looks great on the setup. Although looks shouldn’t play a huge part in your equipment, lets face it, they do.

Although there is no free-spool mechanism, the clutch is quickly switched from a tight to free position with each click adjusting the clutch subtly, allowing you to keep control of the fish at all times.

I was extremely surprised to learn that the reel retails at under £60, considering how enjoyable it was to play carp on - yes, it’s still important for fishing to be fun.

The reel comes with a spare spool and the signature ACS clip that allows you to leave your line clipped when fishing because it simply ejects itself when needed. Despite a more compact design than its larger 75S big brother, it still has great cracking power to handle big carp surges, and is capable of achieving great distances when used with a balanced rod and lead setup.

There are slightly lighter reels on the market but they will cost you considerably more for something that effectively does exactly the same thing. They look god, they’re good value for money and I’d happily use them on a setup!

Key Features - 5+1 ball bearings - Over-sized main shaft ensures huge cranking power - Micro-pitch, multi disk drag - Anti-twist line roller - True matt black finish - Spare aluminium tapered spool - ACS line clip - Available in 2 sizes
