Wednesday Review... Vass 700 Series Chest Waders

Vass 700 Series Chest Waders Review

I’ve been trying out these lightweight Vass-Tex 700 chest waders over the last couple of months, and I can honestly say they outshine all the other brands that I’ve tried.

Over the years I’ve worn various different brands, from lightweight to what some companies call heavy-duty and 100 per cent waterproof. This may all be true to some extent, but I’ve found out the hard way, when it comes down to it, that a lot of the waders I’ve had don’t stay waterproof for very long.

I’ve found that the seams start to come undone where the boots join the legs. These area’s seem to go first on a lot of the makes I’ve tried.

These new ones from Vass don’t seem to suffer with this issue at all. For this reason they get a big thumbs-up from me, as I’ve tested them to the max on a lot of different venues and over all sorts of terrain, from fine sand to different types of stone and shingle.

Another excellent feature of the boots is that the soles are made up of a very high-quality, hard wearing rubber, with built-in studs. These are brilliant when it comes down to what I like to call rock hopping, when I’m out bait collecting all around the southeast coast, as we have a lot of very different kinds of rocks.

There are areas of very clean chalk that can be treacherous at times, plus there are jagged rocks that are covered in green, slimy stuff, and big brown or black kelp beds that can be as slippery as an eel. The studs on the bottom of the boots grip to the rocks just like a mountain goat to a mountain, so there’s been no falling off the rocks for me this year when I’ve been out collecting crabs for bait.

What also impresses me is the inside pocket, which is very useful for storing my mobile phone and keys. This not only keeps them safe but, most importantly, they remain dry.

The straps are very robust and are well fitted on these waders. The clip that fix onto the top half of the waders are very strong indeed. On most of the other makes I’ve used they normally snap and you end up tying them to the waders because you can’t buy replacements.

Also impressive is the adjustable strings that are fitted to the inside of the waders on the top half of the body to provide a very comfortable and snug fit.

The next point that can’t be overlooked is that Vass is a forward thinking company when it comes down to the amount of room that you have. I can get in and out of these waders with ease, without having to roll around on the floor asking for help! In this area Vass definitely get my seal of approval, particularly as I’m not in the slim-jim club that a lot of other companies seem to cater for.

Finally, with a lot of waders on the market, you can’t normally wear them for too long in the midday heat because they get very hot and can sometimes be unbearable. I tested the Vass waders on my latest adventure down south on a Stingray mission. It was an extremely hot day and I was glad to have plenty of space on the inside, which I’m sure helped vent the heat from the waders. It made them a lot more comfortable and I was able to wear them for the entire day.

Overall I am extremely impressed with these waders. They are excellent quality, durable and really comfortable to wear. They are well manufactured and a great deal of thought has gone into the design.

I would highly recommend them to anyone – they are great value for money and will last for ages.
