A Reel Winner - The brand new Shimano Speedcast XT-B looks sure to be a bestseller - here’s what the ACF team has to say.
Shimano needs no introduction when talking about the reel market for all fishing disciplines. For years it’s made some of the very best, innovative and sometimes best value-for-money reels on the market. We all dream about a set of Magnesiums but, realistically, most cannot afford to spend the same amount on fishing reels as what a family car will cost you - cue the brand-new Speedcast XT-B.
Available in a 14000 model, the reel looks remarkably like it’s higher-end cousin, the Ultegra CI4+. The difference? Half of your money is still in your pocket.
The reel is well balanced and contains the same large, tall spool, which, coupled with the slow oscillating mechanics, makes it great for long-range casting work. The clutch tightens and loosens quickly and the large handle has plenty of crank power. Fitted with a Baitrunner spool, the Speedcast XT-B is perfect for long range carp angling on large waters.
The Speedcast XT-B uses Shimanos X-Ship gearing for maximum efficiency, gearing that is used across its reel range and proven to stand the test of time. With a powerful retrieve ratio of 4.3:1 for confident fish-playing it also retrieves a remarkable 103cm of line per handle turn!
There’s a spring-loaded line clip that will cushion your casts to prevent line damage and when you think that they cost a little over £100, you are getting incredible value for money. It’s aesthetically pleasing, will look great on your setup with a dark, understated look, won’t cost you the earth, and, coming from the Shimano stable, you can have the utmost confidence in it’s longevity.
