Maver Elite Carp Series 4 Pole Review

Joe Caracass (Match Fishing Magazine) gives his verdict on the awesome new Maver Elite Carp 4 Pole – The flagship offering that has really got people talking.

Maver introduced two ranges of poles for 2014, both of which are being sold through its superb Centre of Excellence initiative, whereby some products can only be purchased from a nominated Maver Centre of Excellence tackle shop.

Maver’s flagship Signature range are stunning poles aimed at the all-round angler. However the models that really grab my attention are the brand’s Elite Carp Range. I have tested both the previous Elite Carp poles and absolutely raved about them. For less than a grand they were superb poles and, judging by the amount I have seen on the bank, everyone thought so to!

When I saw that the range was going to be topped off by a £2000 offering I just had to get one in and try it. The phone call was made and two days later the shiny new Elite Carp 4 was sitting by my desk.

Maver Elite Carp 4 Pole I

The Maver Pole ranges have had a bit of a revamp over the last year or so and the kit packages (which have always been exceptional) have been updated, in line with what anglers want these days. The Elite Carp 4 comes with seven spare Powerlite Power Kits, which are pre-bushed with a side puller slot also fitted. The top kits themselves are well worth a mention in that they are shorted than previous Maver top kits, which I am sure will be a popular change, and are incredibly stiff and light yet extremely strong. I am not normally a fan of power kits but these are superb and do away with any need for match kits. I can’t speak highly enough of them.

But what about the pole itself? Well, it is nothing short or superb! I was expecting a nice pole but the Elite Carp 4 is stunning. Firstly the mandrel is nice and slim, which makes it a nice trait and certainly makes handling the pole a joy. Secondly this pole is stiff… really stiff. Considering this is a Carp pole I was amazed at how good it feels. The balance is exceptional and, although this may sound odd, the pole feels ‘just right’.

Maver Elite Carp 4 Pole III

Having handled the Signature series of Poles, I would actually choose this model over them for my fishing. The Signature range is sublime, but for the rough and tough nature of my style of commercial fishing, the Elite Carp 4 would be my choice.

There are some lovely extras to be had with this pole too, including the Utility sections. These are a great idea and are basically beefed-up No.5, No.6 and No.7 sections for fishing short. On venues such as Larford, where you are fishing for big fish on a short pole, these are fantastic and prevent damage to your more expensive carbon.

There is also a short top kit, again with a side puller slot. Anglers fishing snake lakes or anywhere a short rig is required will absolutely love these!

Maver Elite Carp 4 Pole II

The Elite Carp 4 comes supplied with Teflon joints, clean caps, cupping kit, Dvd’s and a quality holdall, along with a 12-month guarantee. The Sun Core finish makes a welcome return and ships brilliantly well as always. I can’t really speak any higher of this pole, to be honest, and it is up there with some of the best that I have used. If you thought the previous Elite Carp Poles were good, you haven’t seen anything yet.

Other Info The Elite Carp 4 weighs in at less than 800g at 13 metres! The balance is terrific too, and you could be fooled into thinking this was a lightweight Roach pole.

The Pole comes with a great spares package of eight Powerlite top kits and a cupping kit, dolly but, clean caps, Dvd’s, holdall and tubes. What I particularly like is that the top kits come pre-bushed both at the tip and on the side puller slot kits.
