Wednesday Review... Korum Compact Barrow

Some anglers like to take every item of tackle including the kitchen sink with them, even for a day’s fishing, and there are plenty of barrows on the market to suit their needs. However, if you’re an angler who wants the ease of using a barrow but doesn’t want one that fills the car and garage then this little number from Korum could be for you.

The Compact Barrow, as the name suggests, is small in frame, compared to the giant carp barrows available, but what this lacks in size it makes up for in ingenuity – it’s unique loading area, which sits below the main chassis, gives you space that other barrows don’t offer. It’s made out of a strong material too, which can be folded away after your session, further adding to the argument that the Compact Barrow really does cut down on space used.

It’s light too and when combined with a single removable pneumatic tyre I was able to push my gear along the banks of a wet and uneven Warwickshire Avon path with ease.

It’s not just for the static fisherman either, the roving angler will appreciate the ease of movement that the barrow gives you. You can even leave your kit in the barrow and sit next to it. Then, when you want to move on you’re ready to go. No heavy bags to carry, no rods swinging around catching onto branches – it really does let you concentrate on fish location and enables you to travel those longer distances to swims that many anglers don’t fish due to their distance from the car park.

If you want to carry one or two bags, a bait bucket and a quiver with a few rods in it then the Compact Barrow is perfect. Korum recommends you use its other items, such as its ITM range of luggage that all fit in nicely, but in truth you can fit most seatboxes, chairs and bags on here with ease.

When you’ve finished your session you can dismantle the barrow, including taking the wheel off, allowing you to store it away easily.

Other features that I particularly like are the handles, which provided grip, especially it in wet conditions. They’re also padded, which further aids your comfort levels.

On the downside, the removable tyre can be a bit fiddly to put on and take off but with a bit of practice it becomes easier. However, other than this small point this small, strong and light barrow is perfect for the angler on the move and I’ll certainly be using it for seasons to come.
