Wednesday Review... Greys Prodigy GT3 Carp Rods

Greys has long been recognised as a top rod manufacturer and the Prodigy range has stood the test of time and accounted for some extraordinary catches along the way. The GT3 is available in a choice of 12ft or 13ft to suit the anglers preference. The 13ft versions are only available in 3.5lb test curve, with the traditional 12ft models in 2.5lb, 2.75lb, 3lb 3.25lb and 3.5lb.

The Prodigy GT3 is the third generation of this established range, with the addition of various tweaks to give an overall improved performance. The renowned progressive action has been maintained but with a reserve of power perfect for punching leads and PVA bags towards the horizon. The tip section offers a forgiving action that is paramount for the smooth control needed when playing fish under the rod tip, reducing the risk of a hook-pull at the most critical time of the fight. To match the performance, the aesthetics are stunning.



Complementing the slim, high-modulus carbon-fibre blank is a Greys-style DPS reel seat with a full Japanese shrink-wrap handle, beautifully finished with anodised collars and butt cap in an understated gunmetal grey. Along the blank are G-lite SiC guides, which are exceptionally strong considering their lightweight construction. To set the rod nicely, there’s a line-friendly, contoured line clip.
