We check out the latest Fortis X Snugpak collaboration...
The new FJ6 (Fortis Jacket 6) has actually been design specifically for anglers. With its three-quarter-length cut, it’s like a wearable sleeping bag, keeping your entire core lovely and warm. The sleeves have also been designed with a little extra length and in combination with the longer body stops the hem from rising up too far when casting, where your arms are reached up over your head. The jacket also features a built-in adjustable hood with a high neck, elasticated cuffs with thumb holes and an elasticated hem, which all reduce cold draughts. It also has zipped hand pockets, chest pocket and internal pockets, so you have plenty of places to safely store your personal belongings.
Fortis has used Snugpak’s Softie Premier Insulation, which is rated as warm to minus 5oC. While the insulation rating is not quite as low as the SJ9, the jacket is a fair bit lighter (875g v 1,000g, size L) and much more manoeuvrable. It also packs down nicely into a supplied stuff sack.
The jacket’s outer fabric is made of the same Paratex Micro fabric, which is tough yet very lightweight, windproof and water repellent, meaning light rain should simply bead off without a problem. The inner Paratex Light fabric has excellent breathability and wicking properties, so it should keep you warm without getting sweaty. The jacket is available in either olive green or proper British DPM.
Verdict - A comfortable, well cut, insulated jacket that is bound to keep you warm even in the coldest fishing situations.
