Wednesday Review... Daiwa Cast'izm Reel

Daiwa Cast’izm Review

When I first received the Cast’izm I thought I had been sent it in error. It looked and felt sublime but wrongly I assumed that it was a heavy-duty feeder reel, so I emailed Stephen McCaveny at Daiwa to ask where it needed to be.

There was an apology, but not for having sent it, more for not having told me he’d done so. It turns out the Cast’izm is the latest stunning reel that Daiwa has launched onto the Carp market and it appears to be a revelation.

Far from being aimed at the specimen or match markets, this is a proper Carp reel and, although it resembles something much smaller, it is in fact a reel with very big potential.

The science runs deep, but essentially the combination of spool shape, size and shorter stroke allows the body of the reel to be made much more compact, yet the ability of this work of art to cast a lead huge distances is phenomenal.

In UK testing with anglers such as Darrell Peck, it performed just a few percent behind Daiwa’s famous Basia in terms of distance. When you see this reel you’ll be amazed at it’s capabilities, just as I was.

Cast’izm is mag sealed, which allows complete protection from any water or small-particle ingress, and maintains the same smoothness after years of use as the day it comes out of the box.

Airbail, the superb QD spool, DigiGear II, Twistbuster, a super-tough yet lightweight Zaion body and the high-impact line clip round off this magnificent reel.

It’s no exaggeration to say that the Cast’izm is a piece of modern reel engineering that is something to truly behold.

Likes A sublime reel and a quite brilliant piece of engineering.

Dislikes Not for the angler on a budget.
