Wednesday Review... Avid Benchmark Bedchair

We had heard a lot about this special release from Avid Carp this year and after seeing the product first-hand we can see where it's name is derived from. Avid really has set a new benchmark as far as bed chairs are concerned.

As a pioneer, Avid was among the first companies to recognise the use of, and utilise, memory foam in bed chairs, bringing home comfort straight to the bank. Well the new MEM:X is no different. With a durable structure it is perfect material for long-term use and ingeniously softens in reaction to body heat, allowing it to mould around a warm body in a matter of minutes.



The 2inch thick memory-foam mattress completely covers the surface of the chair, making it not only enjoyable to sit and sleep on but utilise the entire frame for a much more spacious and enjoyable nights sleep; no more cold frame to knock your elbows on or dig in the back of your knees as you sit and watch the water.

An age-old problem with bed chairs is that the elastic has a tendency to sag over a period of time, which can often result in parts of your body lying directly across the bars. This is not only uncomfortable but can also lower your body temperate. To combat this a new Lumbar Region Support System has been fitted. By utilising two layers of canvas under the bed and elasticated ends it provides a much firmer platform, providing a more supportive sleeping platform.

An unusual feature is the lack of a dedicated head end. Initially puzzled, it soon dawned on us that this gives the user a much larger useable area to really get the most out of the luxurious features.



Weighing in at 12kg for the Benchmark and 16kg for the Benchmark X, they are by no means lightweight. However, these days luxury has surpassed the need for a lightweight, compact model, well for the masses anyway.

Both models come with four legs, making them sturdy and stable on even the roughest of banks, but also allowing them to take two or even three grown men sitting comfortably without the worry of bending the bottom bars. The Benchmark is very much for anglers for whom comfort is paramount.
