Towards the end of March we introduced you to our two new partner charter fishing boats, Trot On and Alliance. This month we’re happy to share their first fishing reports – straight from the 2016 Whitby Charter Skippers Association (WCSA) Spring Festival.
Trot On experienced some excellent days fishing – when the tide and weather was on its side! On one day of the festival Trot On managed well over 100 fish, which was remarkable considering the poor conditions experienced throughout much of April. The next day Trot On landed a further 70 and lead the festival thanks to a nice 16lb cod caught by Manchester angler David Merking.
Skipper Paul Eddon has also managed a couple of daily prizes, including a double figure pollock which he looked in the tail – needless to say she took off like a rocket!
Trot On also had a few more double-figure cod and plenty of good table-size fish using ‘dirty squid’, which were fished on a patternose trace made with a minimum of 100lb breaking strain line and a 6/0 hook. It also had the odd fish falling to shads and lures, too.
Alliance has also been among the fish, again when the weather and tide has been in its favour, with its best day reporting over 60 decent size codlings. Both Trot On and Alliance fished with plenty of 12 oz leads and both skippers used their experience to fish hard in the wrecks where the better fish were laying.
The next WCSA festival will run between July 25th and July 17th – if this spring festival is anything to go by it looks as if it’s going to be a corker. With huge prizes on offer you don’t want to miss this angling epic.
