Top 5 Tips for Taking Children Fishing – From Ade Kiddell

It’s been great to see a large take-up of the Angling Direct Free Whips for kids offer, I personally know a few people who have taken up the offer and the kids absolutely loved going fishing. As the summer holidays draw to a close, be sure to check your local Angling Direct store for this offer!

My Top 5 Tips for taking youngsters fishing would be….

1) Guided Angling

If you aren’t an angler yourself then go with someone who is! It is impossible to show youngsters if you don’t know yourself.

2) Short Sessions of Fishing

;Limit the first few sessions to a couple of hours. By keeping the first few times they went fishing to a couple of hours and making sure the kids caught something, the kids will be hooked and wanting to go again.

3) Visit an Easy-to-Catch Venue

Go to a venue where you are going to catch fish, blanking is not going to fire an interest.

4) Enjoy Fishing

Make sure they enjoy the session, remember it’s the whole experience and not just the fish we catch that makes fishing so enjoyable. Take in all the nature and the surroundings as you fish! For example; lookout for birds and waterside wildlife.

5) Set Fishing Goals

As the kids get more into the fishing, be sure to set challenges, like a fish race or catch as many species as possible in a certain time window.

Don’t forget memories made now will last forever and who knows a future star angler in the making.
