Tench Fishers

Tenchfishers – a bit of background

Going strong since 1954, The Tenchfishers are one of the oldest single-species interest clubs on the UK angling scene.  With branches across the country, the group is organised by region, with each region having a designated Regional Organiser (RO), responsible for co-ordinating and collating membership and activities in their area. A full list of regions, and their respective Organisers, can be found on the Tenchfishers' website, which also offers a wealth of accessible information about the organisation, and around tench fishing in general.

As an organisation, The Tenchfishers encourages passionate involvement with all aspects of tench fishing, and tench in general; this is far more than just another get-together of anglers, although, of course, getting together to fish, and enjoying news of their members' independent catches, is a central aspect of this species club's community focus.

What's Going On In Tenchfishers?

The Tenchfishers are actively seeking new members who have a passion for tench, and a desire to broaden their knowledge of this fish species, and their skill in fishing for it.

Members of the Tenchfishers enjoy exclusive access to TenchTalk, the members’-only web forum. They receive a regular, professionally produced bulletin, to which new members are encouraged to write an introductory letter, so that, despite its national reach, the club never loses the friendly feel and personal focus that makes it so successful, and such a great fit for Angling Direct's own culture and approach. Members will also get to enjoy regular regional and national fish-ins, a popular social occasion which offers a great way to get to know other members personally, whilst enjoying your favourite sport.

As well as always being ready to welcome passionate tench anglers of all backgrounds, group members have produced a range of enjoyable, informative books, focusing on tench and tench fishing, including those by prominent names such as Bob Church and Chris Turnbull.  Their most recent book, Tinca Tinca (the title is taken from the Latin name for tench), features in-depth content from over 50 experienced tench enthusiasts, keen to share their passion for this fabulous sporting fish.

Where Does Angling Direct Come In?

The Tenchfishers are a group whose philosophy and outlook closely match our own, so supporting them was always going to be a natural fit.  Fosters of Birmingham, whom we recently welcomed into our retail family, have also been a proud sponsor of the Tenchfishers, providing fantastic tackle deals to their members.  At Angling Direct, we love supporting species-specific clubs, and encouraging passionate, informed involvement in the sport, so we're naturally very pleased to continue the sponsor relationship built up through Fosters.

I'm a Tench Angler, and I'd Like To Become a Member of The Tenchfishers

That's a great idea! Simply head on over to the Tench Fishers' website – www.tenchfishers.com – and follow their simple sign up steps.

As a member, you'll be expected to write an introductory piece for the club's regular bulletin (don't worry if writing isn't your strong suit – they have got talented folk on hand, ready to polish things up a little bit), support your Regional Organiser on a regular basis, and make a summary of your tench catches throughout the year.  So you'll soon find, this is an angling organisation that's about doing, not talking, and which celebrates the achievements of all of its members, not just a handful of prominent “names”.

Of course, whether you're a member of the Tenchfishers or not, here at Angling Direct, we'd love to hear about your tench catches, too – if you're new to tench fishing, why not check out our handy blog?
