Tackle Tuesday... Matrix Match Master Seatbox

Matrix Match Master Seatbox Review

Regular readers will know that I am a huge fan of the original Fox MSB box from a couple of years ago. I used to absolutely love this box and still believe it to be at the top of the tree when it comes to compact storage.

When Matrix was launched, its gaffer, Ricky Teale, assured me there was to a new model that would pick up where the MSB left off. I couldn’t wait, and after a two year wait the latest incarnation was eventually sitting next to my desk, ready to be reviewed.

The Matrix Superbox is the brand’s bigger ‘station-type’ offering and has been a huge success since its launch, and they are a common sight on any venue. But for some anglers, these larger frame-style boxes are simply too bulky. They can be a hindrance when travelling in a small car and can certainly make life difficult.

The Match Master offers many of the same features as the Superbox but is wrapped up in an altogether different package. This is a more traditional seatbox, with a deep base unit where larger items can be stored; on top of this are two drawers and two winder trays. There is actually a lot of space in this box and, speaking from personal experience this setup simply swallows tackle!

The leg system revolves around 25mm folding legs and a folding footplate that lifts neatly by the box when in transit. This is a stable setup, as the seatbox frame is so low to the ground. The box is also fitted with snag free fittings throughout. This may seem a small point but there is nothing worse than your line catching around the knobs on your seatbox, and with these that certainly seems to be less of a problem.

I have to be honest, I really like this seatbox. It ticks a lot of right boxes for me and comes in at a price that isn’t out of reach for most anglers. It may not be as visually appealing as some boxes around but is far more practical… and surely that’s what we look for in a box, isn’t it?
