Tackle Tuesday... Greys Prodigy Tackle Base Rucksack

Greys Prodigy Tackle Base Rucksack Review

I’m guilty of being completely unable to thin my tackle down. I’m one of those ‘just in case’ junkies who carts everything they can think of down to the river – and immediately regret it when I’m sweating like a herniated pig only halfway to the swim.

Because of this I’ve gone through a load of different rucksacks trying to find one with the very right balance of capacity and carrying comfort – although in my experience it tends to be one or the other.

The Prodigy Tackle Base Rucksack has been out for a while now, but I’d never used one and looking at it on paper it seemed a good bet. The build quality was there, as it the capacity with loads of storage pockets around the large central hold – this also includes an insulated bait compartment between the central and top storage areas, which will come in handy for my Piking antics during the winter.

The most important thing, though, is that this is also a properly set-up rucksack. A padded back to stop your tackle bits and bobs separating your vertebrae, properly padded straps of a good width to spread the load on your shoulders, plus, and most importantly, a good quality, fully adjustable and well-padded waist strap that keeps the rucksack from riding down on your shoulders and putting pressure on your back.

Fully loaded with gear and camera equipment, the Prodigy bag was comfortable from the start of the long bankside hike and I’m happy to report it was also still comfortable when I got to the stretch of river I wanted to fish. All in all, I’m very happy with it. For me, and anyone like me, it’s the perfect carrying device for everything I want. The construction part if very good, and with waterproof coverings on the bottom of the bag and the lower side pockets where it will come into contact with the floor it should last a good while too.
