The first one that caught my eye in the new range of Edges tools is the Multi-Tool. The cross shape gives four arms, each fitted with a handy device, namely a stripper for coated braids, knot tightening hook, large loop-knot spike and small D-rig spike, ideal for shaping the loop on D rigs. What I like, compared with something similar I’ve seen, is the Multi-Tool’s compact size, which allows it to fit easily in the compartment of my tackle box.
The hi-viz orange colour on the Multi-Tool is replicated on the braid blades (you’ll find both easily if you drop them on the bank or in your bivvy), which are among the sharpest I’ve reviewed. There are few things as annoying as blunt braid scissors. I like a clean cut first time and these deliver that. Time will tell how sharp they remain after use.
Fox’s Bait Drill also features the same orange colour on its handle and is a nice compact size, again saving space in the tackle box. The drill is a 6mm bit and it comes supplied with four cork sticks. This size is pretty versatile, but a smaller, maybe 4mm, version would be nice too.
Finally the baiting needles, of which there are four (heavy, fine, gated and stix and stringer) feature ergonomic finger grips and are colour coded on the handles for immediate recognition.
