Fox Chunk Clothing Review

The editor takes an early glimpse at the brand-new Chunk range of clothing from Fox and asks: 'Could it be the perfect match of form and function?'

Where to start? That was my first thought when presented with the massive new range of Chunk gear for its first UK review. There is no shortage of garments and all, at first glimpse, appear right up the modern Carp anglers street.

Having a bit of a weakness for jackets, the first items that I singled out were the Wind Shield Hooded Jacket and the Body Warmer. The former is a technical fleece but, unlike others, it features a rain-repellent finish. Don't get me wrong, it's not designed for prolonged use in heavy rain but it will keep out light showers. The body warmer is a significant piece of kit without being overly bulky and it's quilted lining is there with comfort in mind. A tiny detail that I like is the internal zipped pocket, not something that you find on all body warmers but essential for things like mobile phones and the like.

On the subject of outerwear, two hoodies feature in the Chunk Range, namely the Heavy Sherpa and Heavy Hoodie, both of which feature a full-length zip. The Heavy Sherpa looks an absolute winner and, as the name suggests, features a heavy-pill sherpa lining for the ultimate warmth and comfort. Plus, drawcords on the neck and cuffs will add to the insulation. I believe that this one will be extremely popular and I have already ordered mine!

The Heavy Hoodie features a micro-fleece inner and Fox, as we've come to expect, has paid plenty of attention to detail throughout. This is a proper hoodie, ideal as an outer layer and which looks absolutely top drawer.

Even better, Fox has added some matching Heavy Joggers to the range and they look just as good as the Heavy Fleece. They're also extremely comfortable and warm, ideal for winter use and looking great either with the hoodie or with other garments, again both on and off the bank.

The Carpy generation will love the next two items - the Chunk Heavy-Knit Jumper and Chunk Medium-Knit Cardigan. These both look proper, with the Heavy Knit fitting perfectly with the current trend for this type of jumper… you just need to grow a big beard to go with it and you'll fit right in with the Carpy brigade!

I really like the Medium Knit and, again, it's ideal for use on the bank and away from the pond. This one boasts a full-length zip, contrasting pocket and turtleneck, with a quality feel throughout. I think this is probably my favourite item in the range but it doesn't finish there.

With the layering system in mind Fox has also included a top quality Base Layer Set, comprising top and bottoms, designed to be worn next to the skin. It's both insulating and, more importantly, allows moisture to wick away from the body. This is a technical garment and, if you've not used a base layer before, you'll be amazed at how much difference it can make.

Finally brining the Chunk range to a fitting conclusion, there's a Mid-Layer Comfort Set, which, as you've probably guessed, also helps build a layer system that sits between the base layer and your outer wear. Again the set comprises top and bottoms and is extremely versatile, ideal not only in the layering system but also as a stand-alone outer layer and even for sleeping during the depths of winter.

So, there you have it, the first glimpse of the Chunk range of clothing from Fox. I reckon it's an absolute winner and there are definitely garments to suit everybody. My favourites are the Medium Knit Cardigan, Wind Shield Jacket and Body Warmer, but check out the range for yourself and decide which bits suit you.
