More Success For Michael...
Our stock manager Michael Stewart has once again been in fine form, landing another string of quality Carp from his Cambs syndicte water. Michael lifts the lid on his most recent session in the short blog story below...
For the 3rd week on the trot I arrived to find an empty lake… Happy Days!
I parked up behind last weeks pitch and went off on a lap of the lake I found fish in 2 of the shallower corners and flicked a few floating pellets out near them, they showed no interest and sunk down deeper and slowly swam off, I had a feeling that they wouldn't be feeding in these areas so carried on mooching about but settled on the "car park" swim again (would be rude not to after last weeks action).
Bish arrived and was going to drop in opposite but I'd already decided to drop the middle rod shorter so it wouldn't be in Bish's way and the right hand one longer, so all were fished the same distance as last weeks productive left hander and in easy catapult range, rods out, and all three got a decent "donk" on touchdown, with a snowman, a hinge and a low down pop rig plus 100 15mm Dynamite Crave over each. I put the shelter up whilst watching Alan "Bish" Titmarsh prune and weed away in his relatively unfished swim. I reached to get the kettle out and the right hand rod was away and resulted in a nice mirror an ounce under 21lb nice way to start and again not blanking! 7pm and I had another on the same rod a very scaley 18 mirror .
That was it not a liner or a beep until 4pm Saturday when the right hand indicator pulled up tight and the line pinged out the clip and the clutch ticked away slowly I picked up the rod and the clutch kept ticking away nice and smoothly it felt like a good fish and wasn't pulling the rod tip down to the lakes surface like a cat, then pop the hooked pilled and I was left to rue the chance. 7pm and after a few shows the left had rod tore off with a very spirited 12lb ghostie almost banana yellow in colour! Another quiet night followed but at 4.30am I was stumbling down the steep gradient to the rods it was the left hander again and it was going some so I thought it was a small "puddy" and was pleasantly surprised when a decent mirror went in the net 22lb 5oz which proceeded to beat me up on the mat trying to get some self takes done! I rebaited the rod with around half a kg before getting back in the bag for a couple of hours kip.
I woke up around half seven to a blue sky and sun shining , kettle on , nothing was showing but I thought there maybe a chance off the top later so started to pack the gear away and moved the wet mat , sling and shelter out into the sun to dry , 10am and the same sort of take as the loss from the previous day but this time on the left hander and the snowman with the fish staying deep and plodding I eventually got the upper hand and it went in the net first time of asking and with a good set of shoulders on it I’d finally caught a better fish off the deck it weighed in at 32lb 11oz and is my best carp to date out of the water , it was my 51st carp landed sometimes it’s just a numbers game till a better fish comes along . After that I didn't bother with the surface fishing and left for the two hour drive home a happy man…
