September is well known for being a good fishing month, the heat of the summer sun has subsided and the fish begin to think about piling on the pounds in preparation for the cooler times ahead. The autumnal weather, often consisting of overcast days and low pressure, is seen as the optimum set of conditions for catching fish, so it's no surprise that our staff have been out and about putting in the rod hours. The results have been pretty special too, here's a few captures from some of our staff too who've celebrated the start of September in style...
Allan Thornby, AD Ashford has been in fine big fish form recently and after a red letter week on the river Wye targeting Barbel, he turned his attentions back to Carp. Fishing our very own lake in Hertfordshire Allans banked an impressive number of 20lb fish, but that 30lb specimen still eluded him, until last week that was! As he finally landed his first UK thirty, a cracker of 33lb 6oz.
Allan wrote - 'After a break of a few years from the big carp scene a recent AD social really gave me the bug again and over the last few weeks I've really been enjoying it! Believe it or not I've only actually done 4 nights in total and I've landed 2 doubles, 10 20's and my first UK 30, it's been crazy!'
Scott Kingsley, from our Norwich head office, has been making the most of his time off shift and has been putting in the hours on his syndicate water, after a short summer break where he spent his time fishing the rivers. On his first session back he managed one of his target fish, a stunning old warrior of a mirror, weighing in at 31lb.
Scotty wrote - 'After a tough few months fishing the rivers (which felt like banging my head against a brick wall!) it was good to get back on the syndicate and back amongst the fish, I thought I was loosing my touch!! The carp was an absolute creature and well worth getting a soaking for, as you can probably see from the pictures, it was rather wet!
For the first day or so of the trip I was fishing where the fish weren't and unfortunately due to angling pressure I was unable to get where they were! Eventually as people moved off I was able to drop on them and then this fella turned up!'
The fish fell to the new CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilies, glugged in Tuna extract and mounted on a Hinge Stiff Rig tied from Scotts ever faithful Gardner components.
Oliver Harper, also from our head office in Norwich, is a true master of the 'quick overnighter'! Often fishing just twelve hours or less per week, he has an impressive list of 'carp to nights' ratio and his most recent session added to that stat. Here he is with a cracking brace of Commons weighing in at 26lb 6oz and 32lb 1oz.
Oliver wrote - 'September is one of my favourites months to fish as the carp really seem to get their heads down and get on the feed! It can often be the most productive time on my syndicate water.'
The cracking commons both fell to CC Moore Odyssey hook baits tipped with corn, presented on a no nonsense bottom bait rig and inline lead set-up.
Carl Sharp, AD Willenhall, has been putting the hours in on his Cambs syndicate water and has been reaping the rewards with a stunning brace of thirties, weighing in at 31lb and 33lb. The fish fell to Premium Carp Food Pickled Krill boilies mounted on size 4 Solar hooks, with Fox Camotex Soft Hooklink.
Carl wrote - 'Both fish were caught very close in, literally around 8 yards out! Early mornings I'd been observing the carp patrol up and down a margin spot, alongside a wall of weed. I carefully placed two baits along this spot and the carp couldn't resist them!'
The brace of thirties completes an excellent couple of weeks for Carl, following his 31lb and 32lb Mirrors landed just 14 days previous.
Craig Startin, along with Carl Sharp, has also been flying the flag for AD Willenhall! Fishing a first session on his new water, a 75 acre low stocked pit, Craig didn't take long to get amongst the local residents, landing four fish in his 36 hour session. Fishing with Dave Mallins new All Season test bait he landed carp of 21lb, 25lb, 28lb and 36lb.
Craig wrote - 'It was pretty daunting to start with, setting out on a large water with a low stock and in all honesty I wasn't expecting to catch on my first session.
The first day or so started slowly but after watching the water and trying to build up a picture of where the fish might be I was able to drop on a group of feeding fish, who obviously couldn't resist the new bait I'm testing for Dave Mallin. Fingers crossed these fish are the first of many!'
