Learn to Fish Carp Academy in Association with Angling Direct

The summer holidays might have come and gone but it’s always great to sit back and reflect on the fish that have made it onto the bank and the fun times had by our students.
I am often asked which carp rods are suitable for kids to learn on and from my experience it’s all about the weight of the rod. A cut down size is helpful, too, but that does not always correlate to a light rod. The CX Lite rod is perfect in that respect and we have had students as young as seven years old cast, play and land fish with ease.
One of the biggest elements in this summer’s sessions was fish care and fish handling. Too often on the bank I see incorrect fish handling and fish care so we felt this should be our main focus. The students came out of the sessions not only knowing how to care for the carp but also why it's so important.
The Advanta Discovery CX Rehab Cradle is an amazing piece of kit especially when you think it’s under £30, even the kids could see the huge difference in quality between the standard budget unhooking mats.
The Academy is back in the October half term so if you know of someone aged 7-15 who lives in London or the Home Counties who would like to catch the angling bug then be sure to visit www.learntofish.co.uk or pop into your local Angling Direct and pick up a leaflet.
The academy also caters for adult tuition so if you want to take your angling to the next step then get in touch on info@learntofish.co.uk
Lastly, I’d like to say a big thank you to our coaches Joe Turnbull, Mike Salisbury and our sponsors, Angling Direct and Baitcraft, who make it possible to run the sessions to such a high standard.
