Learn to Fish Carp Academy

Learn to Fish Carp Academy in association with Angling Direct - School holidays will never be the same again!

Lucky competition winner Joe had the opportunity of a carp fishing session with the Learn to Fish Carp Academy. Joe had never been fishing before but found himself winning the competition through the academy's facebook page.

Tylers Common fishery in Brentwood, Essex was the venue at the prolific ash lake. The lake offers brick built facilities, even banks and platforms which makes for a safe and easily accessible venue for London & the Home counties.

After going through some water safety, Joe was quickly learning how to set up the rods and reels. After a few attempts Joe set a pellet waggler float at the correct depth on the line and attached a banded hook link armed with the T1 trigger pellet from Baitcraft.

He was now ready to strike at the first sign of that all important dip of the float. With conditions on the chilly side bites would be few and far between today but once Joe got the hang of casting and feeding to the same spot it wasn’t too long before the float shot under and Joe was playing a fish.

Playing the fish with the perfectly balanced and cut down size of the Advanta X5 Power Float Rod provided Joe with a great fight but also enough power in reserve to steer the lively carp away from the snag to the right of our swim.

After an energetic fight that smaller carp are renowned for, the fish was in the landing net and the smile on Joe's face was able to be measured from ear to ear.

Whilst the carp recovered in the landing net Joe was taught the basics of carp care and how to prepare the area for the fish. Soon Joe had successfully unhooked the fish and was posing for his first ever photo holding aloft a 6lb carp.

The session brought another five carp ranging between 3-5lbs in weight so it was fitting that Joe's first ever fish was the biggest of the day.
