International Friendship Day - Take a Friend Fishing

The 30th of July (today) is International Friendship Day and us anglers know that sharing the bankside with your friends makes for some great memories, especially when you land a great catch!

To celebrate International Friendship Day, we thought we would remind you of the Angling Trust’s #takeafriendfishing campaign! This is a great idea for anglers that want to get their friends into fishing.

What is Take a Friend Fishing About?

In July, whilst the Take a Friend Fishing is on, anglers can register a friend for a free one-day Environment Agency Fishing Licence. This can be applied for on the Angler’s Trust website and gives you the chance to take a friend, family member or colleague fishing.

This is an opportunity for a friend interested in the sport we all love to accompany a licence holding angler for a day of fishing and enjoy the wonders angling brings us all! You can check out the host of the health and wellbeing benefits on our AD blog. Not only is take a friend to the bank with you great for your wellbeing and happiness, but they are also another pair of hands to help take care of fish, get a great picture of a catch and to carry your fishing luggage down to the bank with you! Just remember to pack the brew kit!

There has never been a better time to take someone you know fishing, with the recent boom in interest for the public to go angling after lockdown, why not give it a go yourself? We, here at Angling Direct want to make fishing as easy as possible for beginners so we have a host of guides, tips and tricks on the AD blog, Facebook page and video tutorials on our Youtube channel! Additionally, we sell plenty of beginner packs such as rod and reel combos and pre-made rigs!

To sign up for the Take A Friend Fishing event all you need to do is is fill in the form on the Angling Trust’s page, providing basic details and the date of you want to go fishing with your friend. Your friend will get an email asking them to confirm some personal details and as soon as that’s done, you’ll receive their free licence! Easy as that!

If your friend finds that after their one day of fishing that they love the sport then you can check out our guide to purchasing a full rod licence here.

Is it safe to go fishing with someone else?

With the recent climate, we know many anglers are heading to the banks by themselves to avoid getting unwell. Angling Trust can confirm that the following are the rules for anglers to follow when partaking in Take A Friend Fishing as dated from 5th June 2020.
