Fox Euro Classic Easy Dome Review
‘One Hilton Room To Go’ Fox International reinvent their 90’s hit classic, the Easy Dome, and take bankside comfort to the next level (rise hand well above your head)!
Oh, how we laughed. Chortling at the idea that Shaun McSpadden and Scott Day and the other Fox design team members thought they could improve the original Easy Dome – the shelter everyone wanted – the house the bivvy geeks claimed, “It’s the pinnacle.” We giggled at the wasted time. We laughed. And then we laughed some more. And then, suddenly, we stopped. We stopped, met the 2014 version, the Easy Dome Euro and, a bit like the day after the summer all the girls at school grew breasts, decided we wanted one, because it was bigger and better.
The Easy Dome Euro isn’t just a fat Yank version of the original which dates back to the late 90’s. It’s a sleeker, tweaked, next stage on version. It’s now easier than ever to put up, which, in a snap-shot goes a little like this: pull up the centre boss, lock the elbows on the poles out and peg down, and the list of new features reads like a telephone book. All the poles are now made from aero-grade aluminium poles and all feature Fox’s unique Snap Lock elbows. They’ve also made it bigger, increasing its size to accommodate the new, larger bedchairs we’re now all sleeping on these days and the door height has also been raised for improved vision.
Then there are the front panel options which can be added or removed depending on the weather conditions. The front is fully removable and features two mozzy mesh front side panels and a two-way zipped door with a mozzy mesh. Along with these, there’s a removable inner mozzy mesh sleeping compartment with a sewn in PE groundsheet which creates a porch area at the front and is fully sealable to eliminate unwanted access from mosquitoes, bugs etc. – which believe us, works brilliant and is a Godsend. They’ve also cut in side mesh panels for increased airflow during the summer months – which is, again, a life-saver at times.
Of course there’s all the usual suspect features: Velcro rod retaining straps, integrated guy ropes for extreme weather situations, oversized carry bag, pegs and a heavy-duty groundsheet is available separately should you require extra comfort/warmth in the winter months. It’s the 2014 version of the hit classic from the 90’s and, if like us you love a dome, then this really is the shelter for you; no question.
