Darren Jukes - Winter League Monkhall Fishery

Monkhall Fishery in Monkhopton Shropshire, in between Bridgnorth and Craven Arms, features 5 coarse fishing pools set in 27 acres of beautiful Shropshire countryside.

Monkhall Fishery Monkhopton has been under new ownership since May 2013, a lot of time and money has been put into the fishery to get it where it deserves to be.

For match details, and upcoming events see our “Matches” section; club bookings are happily taken.

We are open 7 30am – 7 30pm summer hours, and 8am-dusk winter hours.

I went to Monkhall today, on the teams of 4, and after the last round, and a last in section, I needed to catch some fish. I drew peg 7 on Owl; never seen the pool before so went with an open mind, thought I’d maybe place 3rd in section as there were two very good pegs in my section. I had a good plumb around, and settled on a dobbing rig in the reeds, where it was pretty much the same depth all along, with the intention of tapping in some feed when the bread faded. I fed a maggot line at 11.5m in two areas; a short line. I started on the bread for a quick 7 fish, then started to feed some bait, rotated lines for the first 3 hours, and nicked the odd fish off most of my lines, then one of the maggot lines came to life. I had a bite a chuck for the rest of the match on my maggot line, at 11.5m, towards the aerator, catching mainly chub, small tench and the odd F1 to 28lb, which won the section, and the lake. Best rigs were Dino Ginos in 0.10g, Preston F1 maggot floats in 0.40g to 0.12mm main line, a 0.08mm hook length, a size 20 gamma black for maggot, and an 18 F1 pellet for dobbing; elastic was a 7 hollow for maggot and double 3 for dobbing. Had a busy day’s fishing, so really enjoyed it. And the team was 3rd on the day, so pulled some points back.
