The last fortnight has been exceptionally windy again but on the rare days we have got out the fishing is improving all the time.
There are a lot more Thornback rays starting to arrive in all areas, these fish will be with us right through till June inshore, best baits are squid, herring, mackerel, crab and anything else fishy, they really are not fussy.
There are a few more cod starting to show, a lot of these fish are actually already in the Estuary but are up in the water chasing herrings. As the herring move offshore in the next few weeks the cod will go back on the seabed after crabs and then we will be able to target them again. Best baits are lugworm and squid.
There are a few nice whiting around, these lovely fish like a big lugworm and mackerel bait although they also like squid.
Offshore is improving quickly with a lot more Thornbacks and odd nice cod, we hooked into 40 Thornbacks last Tuesday from a secret mark offshore, all these were a good mix of fish up to 12 lb, it was actually calm and the sun was shining, lovely conditions and very enjoyable.
Prospects are excellent, as we get into March we will start seeing the spring run of cod and plenty of rays.
