After receiving a few questions on our social media channels about using Luncheon Meat as a bait we thought it was about time to we ventured out and tried to answer them!
Now ultimately, in general Meat is a big fish bait, so we decided to pick a venue which contained a decent stock of relatively large Carp, the venue we choose was Colton, part of the Barford complex.
Now these fish aren't big by specimen Carp standards but they are for commercial fishery fish, with Carp to over 10lb regularly landed by match and pleasure anglers alike. The fish are also well known for being 'Meat Munchers' and through the years many a match has been won by anglers using Meaty baits, making it he perfect venue for us to show off just one of our favourite ways to fish it.
Now there are many different ways to fish with Meat and of course there are many different meaty baits on the market, but one of our favourites is fishing standard Luncheon Meat, through a feeder; a meat feeder!
Another bait we also had with us to use was Hemp. I'm sure many of you will agree that Meat and Hemp goes together a treat; like a fishy equivalent of strawberries and cream or bangers and mash!
To start with we needed a feeder mix, so we pushed one can of standard luncheon meat through a very fine riddle, we then added half a tin of Hemp and finally a few larger pieces of meat; 8mm cubes (cubed with a meat cutter) to be precise. One of these 8mm cubes was added to the hook, and the feeder was filled with the tasty looking mix.
It was then simply a case of just add fish! Did we succeed, were our rigs, baits and chosen methods successful?
