Angling Direct's Tour De Branches Charity Bike Ride

Angling Projects has been around for over 40 years and has gained an enviable reputation throughout the UK as being one of the best fishing club facilities for groups of young anglers in the country. It offers facilities free of charge to groups of youngsters from the age of 8 years upwards.

Young people come from schools, youth clubs, scouts/guide groups, junior angling clubs and include children at risk and with special needs or disabilities. Angling Project’s purpose-built centre in Welley Road, Wraysbury, Berkshire, can accommodate between 8 and 22 youngsters and the facilities are equipped for a week's stay with accommodation, cooking facilities and a club house.

The centre also offers schools programmes teaching support aimed at Key stage 2,3 and 4 pupils, during which they focus on Reading, Writing and Maths. As well as this, the wonderful charity hopes to get the youth of the UK hooked on angling. (Angling Projects: https://angling-projects.org.uk/)

The event itself certainly sounds like a week of fun as our teams with need to get that cycling gear on and get ready to pedal fast! A static bike will be set up in store and shop staff will cycle the virtual distance to the next store.

The final event will take place at the Rackheath site with staff members cycling the virtual distance to the new Shimano Warehouse facility. The total distance is 1,295 miles! If you are popping in to one of our stores to buy some new tackle or to cheer on team AD, there will be collection buckets available for cash donations if you feel like giving to the cause.

The AD family will rise up to this challenge and we hope our beloved customers will show us some support along the week! If you cannot make It to one of the stores to cheer the AD team on, not to worry! There will be plenty of social media coverage and if you feel generous to the Angling Projects cause simply donate through the ‘Just giving page’.

The founder of Angling Projects – Les Webber MBE, will be invited to attend the event at the Waltham Cross branch and then invited to view the finale at the Head Office before being presented with a cheque for the total raised. Here is what Les had to say about the event.

"With recent support that we have received from Angling Direct ( in the shape of rods, reels, whips and rigs ) now to hear that they are going to run a charity event in aid of Angling Projects later this year - is brilliant news.

I am pleased to say, the long term future now looks good for Angling Projects with the support of Angling Direct.

I will be following the event with lots of interest and hope to get to visit as many of AD shops as possible.

Founded in 1976 Angling Projects offers all its time, facilities and equipment FREE OF CHARGE to all visitors to its Centre, which it has done for the last 43 years without any funding.

Thank you Angling Direct for your support."

The event will be taking place between Monday 14 October 2019 and Tuesday 22 October 2019. We should all be encouraging the next generation to pick up a fishing rod and have a go and so this event enables AD to help Angling Projects fund those opportunities.
