One limitation of lantern-type light designs is that they radiate light horizontally outward, such that the bottom and top of the light often cast shadows. This is no problem for the SAT-A-LITE Bivvy Light and its long array of Cree XP-G LEDs, which provide a wide and directional beam of light. The light can therefore be set to shine into the bivvy but the casing blocks the bleeding of light back out towards your swim, reducing the chances of spooking your quarry. This main strip has three brightness settings too, up to a very respectable 100 lumens, easily enough to provide light for the inside of your shelter but able to illuminate a sizable area outside too, should you want it.

If you need even more power with a tighter beam, there is a 150 lumen LED with torch lens situated in one end of the casing, helping to locate dropped bits of tackle much easier. All LEDs in this light are provided by Cree Inc, a leading LED developer and manufacturer that continually pushes for longer-lasting and more energy efficient electronic lighting.

If stealth is a high priority, you can switch the light strip’s colour from white to red, for a light that’s much less disturbing to fish. The splash-proof nature of the casing means little accidents or getting caught in the rain will be shrugged off with no ill effects and the casing includes magnetic attachments to keep the light where you need it to be.

The SAT-A-LITE Bivvy Light RC Deluxe’s power comes from an in-built rechargeable lithium battery, so there’s no more spent batteries to deal with and you can charge it in the car via a USB port with the included cable. It provides up to 8 hours of continuous light on a single change, which should see you through, and only weighs 192g.
